In small relays, coil space and winding turns are usually limited. Adding a permanent magnet can help the coil increase enough force and maintain stable operation through the combined magnetic force of "electromagnet + permanent magnet". The output voltage of the coil will be negative or positive depending on the north or South Pole of the permanent magnet.

Permanent magnets are used in many latching relays.
